Agaricus campestris

Agaricus campestris
There are few mushrooms found in Kansas in quantities greater than you would consume while fresh. The meadow mushroom is happily one of those. It used to be the most common urban mushroom in Kansas, but it is much rarer now. Over the years the location where I have found them in any significant amount has varied, and many years I have not found any. These were harvested on a soccer field within the Lawrence city limits. In past years the county fair grounds were a very good site, but when the area was reseeded the mushrooms disappeared completely.
