Omphalotus olearius

Omphalotus olearius
This beautiful fruiting of Jack-o-lanterns was photographed at Woodridge Park, one of our favorite foray sites.

The particular stump has produced several such displays in recent years, but this was one of the more spectacular.

Two of our club members made a visit to the site after dark to see if they could photograph the luminesence of the mushrooms. Unfortunately the project was a failure. The Omphalotus olearius growing in this area will emit light, but it takes a totally dark environment with eyes well adjusted to the darkness to detect any glow, at least in any I have seen.
